Darius,
Thank-you. It's funny, shortly after getting the older version to work with the patch in this thread I saw the new release and removed and reinstalled. It worked perfectly. It is nice to get under the hood every now and then.

Hello,
I can find neither of those devices on the vSAN HCL, can you provide the part number or Product ID to be sure?
You can check what is on the vSAN HCL using the following steps:
Go to this webpage - vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php?deviceCategory=vsan
Click "Build Your Own based on Certified Components"
In "Search for" Select SSD
Enter any other specifics such as Vendor(Partners), Tier, Device Type etc.

One thing leads to another it seems...
I inherited responsibility for a VSphere installation that I've only been able to work on occasionally. Regardless of that limitation (which I admit is compounding things), I'm trying to work through a few issues.
I did an upgrade to VCenter to 6.5 (from, if memory serves, a 6.0 version that was flagged for needing security updates). That upgrade went just fine, vSphere is operational, but now everything is done through the vSphere Web Client. I don't mind that though it is becoming apparent that my account doesn't have all of the permission I would expect it to have and seem to need it to have in some areas.
I had also added in or was finding in the install the piece I was most interested in getting operational - VMWare Update Manager. Yay, or, uh, not...
In trying to get updates to work, I'm getting a note saying the host can't connect to download content. I've confirmed firewalls or not interfering but am still not getting there. Searching through articles, it seems the issue would be that the host isn't configured properly for DNS. OK, I start looking to check the hosts configuration and seem to be finding I don't have enough rights on my own named account to do that configuration or at least I'm not finding where that configuration is done through the vSphere Web Client *when I am logged in with my named account*.
So... two issues, one, I need to reset the local admin password and two, I'd like to get VMWare Update Manager functioning. I'm hopeful that once I could check the DNS configuration on the host, I'd find the source of my issue for that part. But the local admin issue is driving me crazy. I followed instructions that I found in articles here to use the tool (vdcadmintool) to take care of that process. I fire up that tool, see numbered menu. Choose 3 "Reset Account Password". It prompts for account UPN. I enter in administrator@vsphere.local but that is apparently not what is being sought or at least that has no effect that I can see except to result in this message:
3
Please enter account UPN : administrator@vsphere.local
VmDirForceResetPassword failed (9106)
For the record, the system I'm working on is a participant in a domain where I am not a domain administrator. I am an administrator of the server (which is a member server in the domain).
If any other information is needed to help troubleshoot this issue, please advise and I'll add in what I can.
Thanks for any assistance that can be lent here.
Since I had a stroke - I can't remember many possibilities . . .
Is it possible to copy all of my vmware data in my Imac and paste or some way to put into my MacBook - I would like to use my laptop of vmware machine.
I'm sorry - I know what I think about information - but writing or talking comes out wrong -
Thanks
Hi All,
I'm trying to better understand what happens in a VCHA deployment with an embedded PSC.
From this KB Supported and deprecated topologies for VMware vSphere 6.5 (2147672) | VMware KB
In the 7th example they show a VCHA with Embedded PSC, though the limitation is that the PSC doesn't replicate. What are the ramifications if you lost the PSC on the Active vCenter node. If you're just connecting the PSC to an Active Directory identity source, could you utilize the embedded PSC knowing that it doesn't support replication and configure the same AD identify source on both embedded PSC instances?
Thank you,
Reza
VMWare Tools?
VMWare Tools.
Hello. Sometimes we use VMWare Tools to play Multiplayer in the old game. The question is ... Is it possible to arbitrarily stretch, narrow the screen in the game, so that the image of it also stretched or narrowed. It is necessary to run 4 virtual machines, so that in the game each of them occupies exactly a quarter of the screen. Of course, there is no solution for such options in the game options, you need to set a simple resolution of 640 x 480, then stretch or narrow the mouse and the screen to the size that you need. VMWare Tools is installed. On virtualbox I managed to achieve such results (an example on a picture).
Whether it is possible to reach such results by means of VMWare Tools?
I tried to stretch the mouse, narrow the screen in games, but it did not work. This only works when I'm on the desktop, but not when I started the game.
Taking the opportunity immediately I want to ask ... Is it possible to hide the main menu? I found how to hide the status bar, the tabs on the top, but did not find how to hide the main menu in VMWare Tools.
Moderator note: This isn't a question about VCP certifications/exams, so I've moved it to the ESXi 6 product area.
I found out something:
HTH,
David
In the words of Emily Latella... never mind...
I found solutions and/or the info for both of the issues, and while I'd like to curse VMWare a little, I understand the issues now.
Going through the Flash console I wasn't seeing all of the Administration area. Going through the HTML console, I wasn't seeing all of the Update Manager area. Gee, so simple, right?!
Anyway, when I got into the Admin area I could see and confirm the user base and found the right name for the local administrator.
On the Update manager front, I found a note that told me to change the network information for the Update Manager connection. I changed from the system hostname to the actual IP address of the VCenter server and that got things working as expected.
Yay, both problems solved! Persistence paid off.

Hi ,
This is because the client is not getting the Flex+ GPO applying to it
check this out - Archive Argument Is Missing - Flex+ Profiles , Let’s troubleshoot User Environment Manager (#UEM) 9.X: How to avoid errors during the installation – vLenzker
and also this - http://pubs.vmware.com/uem-92/topic/com.vmware.ICbase/PDF/user-environment-manager92-install-config.pdf
Post your settings for Mission Control of System Preferences
Ok I figured it out.
In Windows 10 1607 most of the user settings GPO's never actually work (I have latest 1607 ADMX from Jan 2017). So the UEM GPO settings were not applying. So the ONLY way to get it to work is to load the ADMX/ADML Files onto the Local VM and then local GPEDIT to set the settings. Now it is working. Windows 10 1511 worked fine with User Settings GPO's but with 1607 they almost all quit working.
One thing I am NOT happy about with UEM is that all current data is NOT copied to new folder relocation folders. It only starts placing NEW data there. This makes it USELESS for existing users.
Persona Management actually MOVED the existing folders to the new location.
So right now from my point of view UEM is actually not as good as Persona Management. At lest Persona Management is working properly without needing to edit local GPO;
VMware OS-Optimization guys need to fix this problem so Persona Management works (It is working perfectly except the folder links that are broken).
How can they make UEM and not even make the basic essential feature of moving users existing data to the new location. Even Persona Management does it without issue.
This stuff drives me crazy... nothing EVER works properly... every single product always has some problem or shortfall. How hard is it to release a product that just WORKS.
I have configured an AD Group with appropriate rights and configured AD integration.
For most users, the they can login, logout, login, no issues.... However, for one user, he can only login once. Second time, doesn't work.
Not sure what is wrong with this one particular account, if I go into Access Control and delete the user, he is able to login again but just the first time.
Raul,
I appreciate your answer and your time. I understand the "Plus" is more powerful and can automate the process with little down time. However, that is not worth $5,000 in my circumstances.
So I am left - trying to determine - if the "Essentials and Esxi" are of value to me. They way I see it - if I don't have to ability to easily perform regular automated backup in some fashion and quickly restore it to the same or different machine - there is little reason to pursue it.
Your answer indicated "you don't have much to choose from". I take it to mean the capability to do the backups and an automated fashion and relocate if necessary is not there.
Once again I thank you for your answer and time.

Hello,
Welcome at the VMware community forums.
Yes if you shut down your virtual machine then you can copy it, just like it is a word document, to another computer.
But there are a few gotcha's.
If you have snapshots then it is best to commit the snapshot before copying the virtual machine to the other computer.
When you are ready to run the VM at the macbook pro, you use File -> Open from the menu and select the virtual machine.
Then on starting the VM, you will get a question "Did you copy or move" the virtual machine. If you select copy the virtual machine will get new virtual hardware and if your virtual machine is windows then you will have to re-activate it.OTOH if you want to run the same virtual machine at both your imac as well as your macbook pro at the same time then you should choose copy (for licensing and to be able to have both machines in the same network)
PS: Don't worry about language, this is a forum with people from all over the world and there's plenty of people asking questions where english is not their first language and thus they might have some problems expressing their questions. I think your question is clear, I hope my answer will clear as well even while english is not my first language.
hope this helps,

Thanks to both Sree and smitmartijn for your replies.
Very helpful both of them.
Regards.
I understand the situation you are in, I also went through it ... until I came to the conclusion that with UEM life is much easier.
There is an Guide - How to migrate VMware Persona Management to VMware User Environment Manager -
https://blogs.vmware.com/consulting/files/2015/09/UEM-Migrations_v3.pdf
How to migrate VMware Persona Management to VMware User Environment Manager (2118056) | VMware KB
You don't most use UEM folder redirection to Run the Key reg..... You can continue use with Persona Folder Redirection and use Uem Environment to Add Keys reg for your users.
I saw that you also wrote to them about the problem in the case I opened on VMware OS-Optimization , Unfortunately, I did not think they would fix it soon.
By the way,
I'm not working on VMWARE.
I'm a client like you :-)
