NSX-V looses AD mappings

Hello Everyone,

We are experiencing some weird issues with Active Directory mappings. I'm pretty heavily using Directory groups with NSX to allow application access. Basically I'm creating a Security Group and make a Directory group to be part of it, then using the SG in rules. Basically what is happening is that throughout the day I would get calls from users not being able to access application all of the sudden. When that happens I go to Loginsight and indeed I see a lot of blocks, then I go to Firewall and click on the Security group and see no mappings between VM, IP and username. SOmetimes I'm able to resolve it by editing the security group, removing directory group, save and then edit it again and readd the Directory group and save again. Sometime it gets resolved on its own and they magically appear again. SOmetimes editing group doesn't help and I add whole subnet just to keep users going and then it comes back on its own again. Very weird and strange. So far VMware is not helpful so I've though I would reach out to the community to see if anyone experienced anything like that.

One thing I noticed is that when that happens not all groups are affected, usually it's only one but it happens with multiple groups. THere is one specific group that it seems to be happening the most often though.

Can anyone recommend anything in that case?

Deleted and Created VMs for past 4 weeks - dashboard

I have a dashboard summary page which lists number of ESXi hosts, number of running and powered off VMs but i would also like to add VMs that have been deleted and built in the past 4 weeks.

Then once that is working go down further and say how many of a specific Operating has been built. Have looked around in vrops to do this but no luck. Anyideas?

Hello,

Please create a new thread and reference this one (vs. reviving an old thread).

To answer your question: You are able to start and stop a virtual machine using the role explained in this post. The authentication dialog you're seeing in the vSphere web client is spawned when the vSphere client refreshes its view. The VM will shut down and start up without you doing anything with the authentication dialog. To test this:

Sign into vSphere/ESXi client with one browser session.

Open an incognito browser window and sign in again to vSphere/ESXi, this time as your limited power on / power off user.

Using the power on/off user browser window, shut down a VM. Don't acknowledge the Sign In authentication dialog.

Watch the same VM from the regular browser window (the one signed in with your full access credentials). You'll see an Action item for shutdown, and the VM will shut down.

Writable Volume Exclusions

Hello Everyone,

So with Snapvol.cfg we can exclude files/folders/registry etc. but I would like to understand how this works if I update the template and already have a lot of existing writable. The reason for that is that we wanted to exclude a specific folder   exclude_uwv_file=\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Temp

Now what I have noticed it that whatever information was in it prior to updating template through AV Manager stays like it's frozen. Also, if I delete any subfolder or file with older date next time I log on it is back. Now, if I create a file/folder in there and log off and log back in the file/folder is not there which is to be expected.

My expectation would be that after detaching writable snapvol.cfg gets updated with the exclusion, then user logs back in and gets all of the contents in  Temp directory back but once they log off again nothing gets persisted anymore in that directory.

Can anyone comment on what is happening out here?

Display corruption with Fusion 11.5, Catalina and Windows 7 on an iMac

Does anyone have any clues as to why my display looks like the attached? I have a Late 2015 iMac running Catalina 10.15.1 with the latest copy of Fusion 11.5 running a Window 7 Service Pack 1 VM. I've upgraded the Hardware Version in the Compatibility Settings in Fusion to version 16, I've tried playing with the video and memory settings, to no avail. The display is fine when I enter Safe Mode in windows, so it appears like it's a driver issue, but I don't know how to update/modify/change the video driver when in normal mode since I can't actually see what I'm doing with the display corrupted (every movement creates further, unreadable disrupted artifacts on-screen). Any help appreciated. Thanks.

I am getting the error below when trying to connect to vcsa 6.7, however I am able to connect to the Appliance Management where I see an alert for /storage/seat

Would this be a good solution to follow

Too many concurrent connections to vcenter

Hi All,

We have three different backup applications in our environment. As of late backups are failing "due to too may concurrent connections to vCenter" I need to find a solution to this problem and begin the process of consolidating backup products. My immediate thought was to load balance vCenter but i'm not sure what the best practice is. Can I deploy another vCenter in HA and then use Netscalers to load balance the TCP connections? Does it have to be in an HA configuration?

If there are better immediate solutions out there please let me know!
Thanks!

Host cluster network issue

eHi everyone,

On one of our host clusters (contains 4 hosts) we are getting the following Configuration Issues message: vSphere HA agent for this host has an error: the vSphere HA agent is not reachable from the vCenter server.

What we have tried so far.

  1. Turning off HA on the cluster, turning back on.
  2. Right clicking on separate hosts and Reconfigure for vSphere HA.
  3. Running /etc/init.d/vpxa restart and /etc/init.d/hostd restart on command line.  Note that the host now reports “not responding” in the vCenter, but is operational.
  4. Restarting the vCenter.

I haven’t tried rebooting a host yet because I cannot migrate the machines off it.  Possibly something I’ll look at afterhours.

On the vCenter I cannot see any of the host configuration for the affected cluster.  But if I connect to the host directly I can configure (I use the vSphere client and/or web client)

Here are the settings on one of the affected hosts.  (attachment 1)

Here are the settings we expect (from a working host) (attachment 2)

Now the problem I have is the host doesn’t seem to know about the distributed switch/port group for me to add these back in.  It only knows about our main VLAN that it’s currently using. (attachment 3)

Thanks for reading.  Any ideas would be much appreciated.

And on mine! :-)

Apple's mucking about with the file system, hopefully, is coming to an end for this iteration.
