Hi Everyone,
Here's the situation. I was able to procure 360G for much needed upgrades in our datacenter. Unfortunately my VMware experience is mostly day to day administration. I'm looking to you the experts in the community to tell me what the "Gotchas" are and what questions I should be asking. I will have some engineers on-site to facilitate this process during the migration. We will be ripping out our old VMware infrastucture (Blades, Chassis, storage, switching) and replacing it with a new chassis/blades, switching, and storage that can handle 10GB. Our plan is to have both systems running at once and use Storage vMotion to migrate everything from the old infrastructure to the new. Here are my initial questions.
- Currently running VMware vSphere 5 Enterprise (ESXi 5.0)
- New blades will have esxi 5.1 - this will break VDR but what else will it break?
- using standard vSwitches seperating LAN, iSCSI, vMotion - what changes will 10GB induce? Should I move to vSphere distributed switches?
- Do I move from VDR to VDP or do I move to a different solution like Avamar or Veeam?
- Should I build out a new vCenter 5.1 server/infrastructre or migrate the old stuff over?
Thanks!!!
